The union is a Juche-oriented revolutionary journalists' organization that was born and has grown strong, thanks to the idea of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il on prioritizing the writing brush and media and their wise guidance, and an ideological and educational organization leading the journalists and the media persons to defend the Party and the leader with writing brush and mike and uphold them with their professional ability.

Right after the liberation of the country the President made sure that newspapers, publishing houses and broadcasting services of new Korea were established and journalists' union was formed on Oct. 11, Juche 35 (1946) and wisely led it to creditably discharge its mission and role in carrying out the Party 's line and policies.

Kim Jong Il led the union to direct efforts to bringing up journalists and media persons to be core elements armed with Kimilsungism and contribute to remarkably enhancing the militant might of the publications of the Party.

For the past seven decades the union has made a great contribution to building the ranks of the journalists and media persons as an entity pure in ideology and faith and firmly consolidating the Party's ideological position true to the original idea of the great leaders and the Party on prioritizing the writing brush and media, and their leadership.

A meeting to mark the anniversary took place at the People's Palace of Culture Tuesday.

Present there were Kim Ki Nam, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials of the Central Committee of the union and journalists and media persons of the publishing and press organizations.

A congratulatory message sent by the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea to the officials and members of the union was conveyed at the meeting.
