Pyongyang, August 1 (KCNA) -- A Pyongyang meeting took place at the Central Hall of Workers Monday to mark the 20th anniversary of the publication of President Kim Il Sung's work "Let Us Achieve the Great Unity of Our Nation".

The work, published on August 1, Juche 80 (1991), indicates the fundamental principles for achieving the great national unity, the issue of achieving unity on the basis of patriotism and the spirit of the national independence and the issue of promoting contacts and dialogue between compatriots in the north, the south and abroad. It also comprehensively expounds the tasks and ways for achieving the great national unity.

Attending the meeting were Yang Hyong Sop, Kim Yang Gon and others, officials of public organizations and working people in Pyongyang.

Yang Hyong Sop, member of the Political Bureau of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea and vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, said in his report that the work is a library of the great national unity that scientifically indicates the issues of nation and reunification on the basis of the Juche idea. The work also serves as a reunification program that clarifies the goal and orientation of the struggle for opening a decisive phase of national reunification through the harmony and unity of all the Koreans.

The President wisely led the Koreans in their efforts to realize the idea and line of the great national unity and accomplish the cause of national reunification, he said, and went on:

The President's idea of the great national unity and the cause of national reunification are being successfully carried out thanks to the leadership of Kim Jong Il.

Kim Jong Il provided the historic June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, its practical programme, and ushered in a new era of achieving the unity of the nation and the independent reunification under the banner of "By our nation itself".

Thanks to the programme of the great national unity provided by the President and the Songun revolutionary idea and outstanding leadership pursued by Kim Jong Il, the nation is sure to be reunified, the reporter said, calling upon all the Koreans in the north, the south and abroad to vigorously step up the general onward advance for the country's reunification.
