Many Chinese Businesses Invest in Rason -- Newspaper
Pyongyang, May 18 (KCNA) -- The Chinese newspaper Heilongjiang Xinwen recently carried an article titled "Many Big Businesses of China Invest in Rason".

The Chinese border city of Hunchun finds it possible to realize a dream of becoming a "trade hub of northeast Asia" with the help of Rajin Port of Korea, said the article. Big businesses of China have launched investment in the Rason economic and trade zone of the DPRK and many businessmen of China are seeking projects for investment.

The article quoted a businessman in Yanji as saying 30,000 people will go to Rason from China this year alone.

Rason City plans to turn itself into an international entrepot, export goods producer and financial base, the article said, adding:

The development of the city is going on in a detailed and profound way.

According to a source in Yanbian, Chinese businessmen who want to invest in Rason can take invitations from the Rason Representative Office and enter the city directly by their own cars.

Power stations in the southern region of China need large quantities of coal but only 20,000 tons of 80,000 tons produced in Heilongjiang a year are transported to the region, said a businessman. As the transport of coal through Rajin Port will reduce the distance and cost to a third, China will yield a profit even though it invests billions of dollars in the development of Rason.
