Kim Jong Il Inspects Hamhung University of Hydraulic Engineering
Pyongyang, December 1 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave field guidance to Hamhung University of Hydraulic Engineering.

He looked round the room devoted to the history of the university, conducted by its leading officials.

He said that the university was established on the direct initiative of President Kim Il Sung and under his wise leadership and has covered the road of glory, turning into a reliable seat for training technical personnel, adding that the undying revolutionary exploits of the President would shine long in the history of the country.

Noting that the university has performed great feats in realizing the WPK's grandiose nature-remaking plan including the West Sea Barrage, the world's leading barrage, the Taedonggang Power Station and the Taegyedo Tideland Reclamation, he said that the party and people of the DPRK would always remember the feats performed by the teachers and students of the university for the party and the revolution, the country and the people.

He went round the Education and Science Exhibition of the university.

Going round the exhibits, he acquainted himself in detail with the successes achieved in the development of education and scientific researches and expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the teachers and students of the university have done a lot of work for the prosperity of the country.

He looked round various lecture rooms and a library and personally visited a classroom where a foreign language lecture was given to learn in detail about how the education was conducted.

He highly appreciated the successes made by the teaching staff of the university, very pleased with the new turn brought about by them in education and scientific researches.

He met the educators and researchers who made distinguished contributions to the education and scientific researches, working at the university for years, and gave a warm pep-talk to them.

He highly appreciated the feats made by teachers and researchers including academicians, professors and doctors before having a photo session with them.

He advanced important tasks facing the university.

He called upon the teachers of the university to steadily improve and strengthen the educational work as required by the developing reality and thus train more talented scientific and technical personnel, always bearing in mind the Party's intention to bring the nation's science and technology to the world's level in the shortest span of time.

In order to train students to be competent scientists and technicians required by the IT age, the university should embody the party's spirit and the working-class spirit in education, firmly establish Juche in it, bring about steady innovations in its contents and quality and decisively improve and strengthen the education in science and technology, in particular.

He underscored the need to conduct brisk activities to introduce advanced technology in close touch with scientific research institutes and universities.

He expressed great expectation and conviction that all the teachers and students of the university would bring about a new turn in training scientific and technological personnel and developing science and technology.

He was accompanied by Kwak Pom Gi, chief secretary of the South Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the WPK, Kim Ki Nam and Hong Sok Hyong, members of the Political Bureau and secretaries of the C.C., the WPK, Kim Kyong Hui, member of the Political Bureau and department director of the C.C., the WPK, Jang Song Thaek, alternate member of the Political Bureau of the C.C., the WPK and vice-chairman of the NDC, and Pak To Chun and Thae Jong Su, alternate members of the Political Bureau and secretaries of the C.C., the WPK.
