Book about Tok Islet Off Press
Pyongyang, October 5 (KCNA) -- The Pyongyang Publishing House has recently brought out a book titled "Tok Islet Seen in Old Maps".

The book consists of four parts --"Tok Islet in Old Maps of Korea", "Tok Islet in Old Maps of Japan", "Tok Islet in Old Maps of Europe" and "Old Marine Charts Made by Foreigners and Tok Islet".

Author of the book Kim Un Thaek, a 56-year-old doctor and associate professor of Kim Il Sung University, told KCNA that Tok Islet, together with Ullung Island, had been a base of the Korean ancestors' activities for subduing the sea, under the jurisdiction of the successive states of Korea.

Ullung Island and its affiliated islet, Tok Islet, were recorded as part of the territory of the Korean nation not only in historical documents, geography books and old maps of Korea but also in old maps and marine charts of the world, he said, and continued:

It has been recognized as an undeniable fact from the point of history and international law.

In recent years, however, Japan has become more pronounced in its claim to the Islet, inviting great indignation of the entire Korean people.

For a better understanding of the islet, the book gives a simple introduction to each of the 100 old maps and marks waters around the islet with red color.

The book, based on detailed data, lays bare the illegality of Japan's claim to Tok Islet.
