Japan Held Accountable for Ukishima-maru Incident
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- Sixty-five years has elapsed since thousands of Koreans were killed by the explosion of the Japanese vessel Ukishima-maru on August 24, 1945.

The genocide was perpetrated by the Japanese military in a deliberate and premeditated way with the government's approval.

The Japanese imperialists committed the atrocity to have their revenge on Koreans for their defeat in the war and keep their crimes against them in the dark.

The vessel was not exploded by a mine as the Japanese government announced but sunken intentionally by the Japanese military.

It was revealed by the facts that the Koreans' boarding on the vessel and its departure were all planned by the Japanese military at the government's beck and call, that the destination of the vessel was bound for Maizuru Port of Japan, not Pusan of Korea and that Japanese seamen left the vessel by lifeboats before explosion.

The Japanese government failed to make an investigation into the incident and kept it in secret, totally ignoring the demand of the survivors for opening the incident-related documents to the public.

Though many years has passed since the massacre, the Korean people have still kept the incident in memory.

Japan should admit its responsibility for the incident and make an apology and reparation to the families of the victims.
