Kim Song Gyu Passes Away
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- Kim Song Gyu, alternate member of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, deputy to the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK and department director of the WPK Central Committee, died of lung cancer on August 24 at the age of 77.

The Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly jointly issued an obituary of him on the same day.

According to the obituary, born into a poor peasant's family during the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule, he grew up to be an able official under the care of President Kim Il Sung after the country's liberation. He devotedly worked for the party and the revolution.

In the period of the Fatherland Liberation War he bravely fought with arms in his hand for the victory of war. Holding important post of the People's Army for years, he worked hard to develop the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK into the matchless revolutionary army of Mt. Paektu.

During the Arduous March, the forced march, he, working as a commanding officer of the large combined unit of the KPA in the central sector of the front, contributed to defending the outposts of the country as firm as an iron wall and firmly protecting Korean-style socialism true to the Songun leadership of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

Holding a responsible post of the Party Central Committee in recent years, he worked heart and soul to increase the combat capacity of the militia forces and firmly establish the all-people and nationwide defence system.

He received many state citations including Kim Il Sung Order and the title of labor hero for the feats he performed on behalf of the country and the revolution.
