Kim Jong Il Inspects Pig Farm under KPA Unit
Pyongyang, January 15 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the October 7 Pig Farm under KPA Unit 534.

He made the rounds of pigpens, a pork processing shop, a by-product processing shop and other places of the farm to learn in detail about production and pork processing there.

He expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the officials, workers and technicians of the farm have put the pig raising on a scientific basis to radically increase the meat production and, at the same time, are mass-producing varieties of quality processed meat with by-products by operating modern processing equipment.

He highly appreciated the feats of the employees of the farm, noting it is a great success that they have kept the meat production going at a high rate in a matter of two years by putting the pig raising on a scientific and intensive basis and building a solid feed base, thereby supplying a large quantity of pork and processed meat to servicepersons.

He advanced tasks to be carried out by the farm, saying that the farm is one of the bases for supply service of weighty importance in servicepersons' diet.

After being briefed on a bio-gas power plant the farm is planning to build, he called for dynamically pushing forward the construction of the power plant which is very beneficial economically as it will be capable of not only generating electricity but producing a lot of quality fertilizer by use of pig excrement.

After looking round the pig farm, he advanced important tasks which would serve as guidelines for breeding pigs in a big way.

What is most important for increasing the production of pork is to research into and develop more piglets of good stock which grow fast while consuming less feed and are suited to the climatic and soil conditions of our country, he said, adding that to this end it is necessary to continue thoroughly implementing the WPK's policy of bringing about a radical turn in raising breeding animals.

Noting that a lot of valuable breeding methods suited to the actual conditions of our country have been created in the course of putting the management and operation on a scientific basis at various pig farms built in recent years, he called on them to effectively swap this precious experience to round off the Korean-style system of raising and managing pigs.

He earnestly called on all fields and units to energetically conduct the work for further developing stock-breeding as a mass movement with a view to providing the service personnel and the people of the DPRK with a more affluent and highly civilized life as early as possible.

He was accompanied by KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su and other commanding officers of the KPA, Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the WPK Central Committee, Kim Kyong Hui, department director of the C.C., the WPK, and other leading officials of the WPK Central Committee.
