Clairvoyant Wisdom
Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il summoned hastily an official on a summer day in Juche 56 (1967).

A prolonged drought rare to be seen plagued Korea at that time.

The official felt strained, thinking that he would be given precious instructions related with drought damage.

He took emergency measures to prevent flood damage, saying there was little problem for the country in agriculture regarding drought with its well developed irrigation and it was urgent to prevent possible damage from torrential rains following drought.

Some officials may ask why we should be worried about rains when the sky is blue, he said, adding: But it is woefully wrong to think that way and we should set about a campaign to prevent flood damage without delay.

The official was moved to the depths of his being.

It was a marvelous thing unknown in history to take measures against damage from heavy rains, not measures to tide over drought when a long dry spell hit the country.

A brisk campaign to prevent flood damage got under way all over the country according to his emergency measure.

It rained in torrents across the country in late August that year, augmenting the flow of water through the Taedong and other rivers per second above 10,000 tons each up on that in former floods.

Kim Jong Il is, indeed, a great man with clairvoyant wisdom.
