Japan Urged to Redeem Its Past
Pyongyang, April 5 (KCNA) -- The coordinator meeting of the International Solidarity Council Demanding Settlement of Japan's Past was held in China on March 28 and 29.

Attending the meeting were representatives of organizations and personages of various countries and regions affiliated to the said council including the DPRK, China, Indonesia and Japan.

The attendants of the meeting were informed of the activities conducted by the organizations in various countries and regions last year demanding Japan's redemption of its past.

The meeting discussed the issue of urging Japan to redress its crimes against humanity and conducting activities against Japan's distortion of history and its wild ambition for territorial expansion, including a campaign for putting pressure upon the parliaments of Japan and the Western European countries to institute a law on the "comfort women" for the Imperial Japanese Army or adopt a relevant resolution with 2010, which will mark the lapse of 65 years since the defeat of the Japanese imperialists and the lapse of 100 years since the fabrication of the illegal "Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty", as a momentum.

It also discussed the matters of publishing books introducing the damage done by the Imperial Japanese Army in various countries and regions in the past and international solidarity activities demanding the compensation for it and regularly introducing through Internet the activities conducted by organizations of the council demanding Japan's redress of its past.

An appeal to the world peace-loving people was adopted there.

The appeal noted with serious concern that with the advent of the new century the world people ardently hoped that Japan would redress its past to enable them to live in a peaceful world free from war, but it has not yet made an apology and reparation for the crimes committed by it during the Second World War and, on the contrary, is again rushing headlong into militarization.

Earnestly calling for participation by an increasing number of people in the campaign demanding a final solution to the issue of Japan's redress of its past by August 2010, the appeal stressing the need to strongly oppose Japan's moves for militarization and distortion of history and its bid to attain permanent membership of the UNSC.
