Kim Jong Il Provides Field Guidance to Power Station
Pyongyang, January 31 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to Ryesonggang Youth Power Station No. 1 which was newly built and commissioned in October last year.

He mounted an observation platform where he enjoyed a bird's-eye view of the power station and acquainted himself in detail with its construction and electricity production.

A world-startling gigantic power station has appeared in this place where only the sound of the flowing water of the River Ryesong could be heard just a few years ago, he said, adding that this eye-opening change clearly showed the inexhaustible mental power and the might of creative ingenuity of the Korean people firmly armed with the Juche idea.

The power station has been built ideally in all aspects ranging from its designing to its construction as required by technological engineering, he said, stressing that this power station is, indeed, a wonderful structure to be proud of as it meets all requirements of the new century.

After being briefed on the power station before a huge painting showing a panoramic view of the station, he went round a generator room and an electricity distribution room.

Noting that the country is prospering thanks to the do-or-die spirit of the Korean people ready to flatten even a mountain and empty even a sea at one go when called for by the Party and the might of the single-minded unity stronger than any weapon, he stressed that the Korean people will certainly fly the red flag of the victory on the eminence of a great prosperous powerful nation thanks to this inexhaustible mental power.

He stressed the need for the builders to complete the power station No. 2 and other remaining project ahead of schedule by ceaselessly putting spurs to them in the same spirit as they displayed in building the power station No. 1 in a short span of time and specified tasks to be fulfilled to wind up them and ways to do so.

He advanced the tasks to be carried out to boost the nation's electricity production.

The shortest cut to satisfactorily meeting the steadily growing need for electricity in our country with many rivers and streams is to construct hydro-power stations on a large-scale, he noted, underlining the necessity to pay primary attention to the hydraulic power generation.

He said that the construction of a hydro-power station is a difficult project but very economical because it serves as a treasure of eternal value and requires less expenses for its management and less labor force, once it is completed.

He pointed out that many minor hydro-power stations were built by the army and society in recent years to bring great benefits to them, underscoring the need to keep holding fast to the Party's policy for simultaneously building large hydro-power stations and minor ones.

Now that a lot of thermal power plants with large output have been built in various parts of the country thanks to the Party's policy for constructing thermal power plants along with hydro-power stations, it is necessary to give fullest play to their capacity, he said, emphasizing that to this end it is necessary to conduct the overhaul of the generating equipment in a planned manner and sufficiently supply coal to them.

Noting that today when the army and people are close to the gate to a great prosperous powerful nation they have launched a final charge with optimism about victory and extraordinary fighting spirit, he called on the whole Party and army and all the people to turn out as one and bring about a great upswing on all fronts in order to bring earlier the day of victory in the struggle for building a thriving nation.

He was accompanied by Choe Ryong Hae, chief secretary of the North Hwanghae Provincial Committee of the WPK, Pak Nam Ki and Jang Song Thaek, department directors of the C.C., the WPK, and Ri Je Gang and Ri Jae Il, first vice department directors of the C.C., the WPK.
