U.S. Loudmouthed "Nuclear Disarmament" Termed Hypocritical
Pyongyang, January 31 (KCNA) -- The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace disclosed in a report that the United States appropriated at least 52.4 billion U.S. dollars for the development and modernization of nuclear weapons last year.

Rodong Sinmun Saturday observes in a signed commentary in this regard: This provides a scientific testimony proving that the U.S. is pushing forward the development and reinforcement of modern type nuclear weapons behind the smokescreen of "nuclear disarmament."

The commentary goes on:

The U.S. pretends to be "interested" in the world peace and "nuclear disarmament" on one hand while putting spurs to the development of new type nuclear weapons by spending a stupendous amount of funds on the other. This behavior is nothing but a criminal act to hold an unchallenged nuclear edge and brandish a nuclear stick in a bid to bring a horrible nuclear disaster to humankind and an act of going against the trend of the present times toward peace.

The U.S. brands others' acts of acquiring deterrent to cope with the U.S. nuclear threat as "crimes" and, at the same time, groundlessly charges other countries engaged in nuclear activities for peaceful purposes with "the development of nuclear weapons."

This behavior of the U.S. is an expression of its outrageous policy based on double standards in the nuclear issue and the height of its arrogance.

For the U.S. nuclear weapons are neither something for decoration nor something for display nor something for self-defense. They are means for war and world domination from A to Z.

The "nuclear disarmament" touted by the U.S. is a version of a nuclear war scenario. It seeks to achieve its ulterior aim while accelerating the moves for development and modernization of new type nuclear weapons under the smokescreen of "nuclear disarmament."

The U.S. would be well advised to face up to the trend of the times and stop playing a "nuclear hide-and-seek game."
