Stop to Move to Revise "Law on Intelligence Service" Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- The Youth and Students Solidarity for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration in south Korea made public a statement on Nov. 12 in denunciation of the move of the "Grand National Party" (GNP) to revise the "Law on Intelligence Service".

The statement accused the GNP of seeking to railroad the "bill on revision of the law on Intelligence Service" through the "National Assembly" in order to radically expand the scope of its activities. This is aimed to grant the "Intelligence Service" the legitimate right to intervene in all fabrics of society and unlimited power, it said, and went on:

The reckless behavior of the GNP is intended to make the "Intelligence Service" similar to the "Central Intelligence Agency" or the "Security Planning Board" which ruled over the people in the past period of military dictatorship, wielding power as it pleased.

Lee Myung Bak and the GNP should not forget the historical lesson that the dictatorial regimes which oppressed the people by intensifying the repressive apparatuses met ruin, severely judged by the people. They should stop at once the move to revise the "Law on Intelligence Service" as it arouses serious concern about human rights abuses and may fuel the Lee Myung Bak regime's suppression of people under the pretext of "security."
