Pyongyang Designated as Venue for 17th World Taekwon-Do Championships
Pyongyang, October 8 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang, the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, was designated as the venue for the 17th World Taekwon-Do Championships to be held in the year of 2011.

Pyongyang and Basel of Switzerland had been chosen as the candidate cities for the 2011 World Taekwon-Do Championships. The annual meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) held in Vienna in February this year selected Pyongyang as the sole candidate city for the forthcoming championships.

According to this, the 18th ITF General Meeting called in Uzbekistan in September formally decided that Pyongyang would be the venue for the World Taekwon-Do Championships to be held in Juche 100 (2011).

At the meeting, the members of the ITF and the representatives from 60 odd countries fully approved and supported the decision to hold the 17th World Taekwon-Do Championships in the DPRK, the homeland of Taekwon-Do, in 2011.

Pyongyang hosted the 8th World Taekwon-Do Championships in 1992.

The date of the championships is to be decided in future.
