Abolition of S. Korea-U.S. "Mutual Defense Treaty" Demanded
Pyongyang, October 5 (KCNA) -- The emergency measure committee for frustrating the crackdown upon participants in candlelight actions, moves for scrapping the June 15 declaration and the October 4 declaration and a plot to fake up a case for suppressing the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration in south Korea made public a statement in demand of the abolition of the south Korea-U.S. "mutual defense treaty" for aggression on October 1.

The statement said that the south Korea-U.S. "mutual defense treaty" fabricated 55 years ago is an unequal and shackling one legalizing the U.S. forces' presence in south Korea as it is a violation of the Armistice Agreement which calls for the withdrawal of all foreign forces from south Korea and a peaceful settlement of the Korean issue.

On the strength of this "treaty," the U.S. troops enjoy extraterritorial privilege and special benefits while the south Korean people are forced to undergo sufferings and such tragic deaths as those met by Hyo Sun and Mi Son have not ceased over the past half century, the statement deplored.

It went on:

The south Korean people are becoming increasingly vocal in demanding the abolition of the "treaty," but the Lee Myung Bak regime has been keen on tightening the "alliance" with the U.S. under the pretext of the "strategic alliance in the 21st century" since the very day of its appearance.

There is no ground whatsoever for the "treaty" to exist any longer as it is obstructive to peace, prosperity and reunification and it should be, therefore, repealed.
