Arms Buildup Blasted in S. Korea
Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- The People for Achieving Peace and Reunification and other civic and public organizations in south Korea held the 83rd rally for peace and disarmament outside the "Defence Ministry" building on September 30 to protest against the puppet authorities' scheme for arms buildup.

Speakers at the rally disclosed that at the "Cabinet meeting" on the same day the "government" shaped a military budget for 2009 which increased 7.5 per cent over this year's and decided to bring this for discussion at the "National Assembly" soon.

Noting that one third of the military budget is to be spent for the tightened "alliance" with the U.S., they held that such spending should be cut down.

A resolution was read out at the rally, which said: Included in this budget are such items as "introduction of new high-performance weapon system for preemptive strike at the north". In the long run, the authorities' arms buildup is designed to meet the U.S. interests and the purpose of its military strategy and tighten the "alliance" for aggression.

Such scheme for arms buildup should be dropped at once as it disregards the sufferings that the people are undergoing due to the economic difficulties and runs counter to the peace process, it contended.
