Independence Day of Nigeria Observed
Pyongyang, October 2 (KCNA) -- Nigerian Ambassador to the DPRK Yusuf Amuda Abubakar hosted a reception on Wednesday to mark the 48th independence day of his country.

Present there on invitation were DPRK Foreign Minister Pak Ui Chun, acting Chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Mun Jae Chol, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Hyong Jun, Vice-Minister of Foreign Trade Ri Myong San and officials concerned and diplomatic envoys of different countries here. Staff members of the Nigerian embassy were on hand.

The ambassador said in his speech that Nigeria and the DPRK have long maintained the bilateral relations of friendship, supporting and cooperating with each other.

Noting that the historic Pyongyang summit took place in June, 2000 and the June 15 joint declaration was adopted there, he hoped that Korea's reunification would be achieved on the basis of this declaration.

Pak Ui Chun said in his speech that the DPRK and Nigeria as non-aligned nations have long supported and cooperated with each other.

He expressed the will to strive to boost the bilateral relations in various fields in the future, too.
