Tomb Dating Back to Koryo Dynasty Newly Registered as National Treasure
Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) -- Teachers, researchers and students of the History Faculty of Kim Il Sung University, the Korean Agency for Preservation of Cultural Heritage and Songdo University of Education carried out thoroughgoing survey and excavation of the Onhye Mausoleum of royal tomb level dating back to Koryo Dynasty (918-1392) and registered it as a national treasure.

The Onhye Mausoleum, located at the southern foot of Mt Songak in Kaesong, the capital of Koryo which was the first unified state of the Korean nation, is the tomb of Queen Wonchang, grandmother of King Wang Kon, founder of Koryo.

The mausoleum takes a traditional form of earthen tomb with stone chamber, a medieval grave style which was adopted by the Korean nation in the period of Koguryo (B.C. 277-A.D. 668) and had been used even in the periods of Palhae (698-926), late Silla (late 7th century-early 10th century) and Koryo.

The comprehensive survey scientifically proved that the mausoleum was built in the early days of Koryo Dynasty for royal family.
