Non-smoking Campaign Brisk in DPRK
Pyongyang, June 3 (KCNA) -- A non-smoking campaign is brisk in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The Tobacco Control Law, adopted in Juche 94 (2005), has been amended and supplemented four times as of this year. The recently-amended law restricts the increase of new tobacco products.

There took place a seminar and a practical workshop on tobacco control activities in January and March.

The seminar, attended by officials from the Ministry of Public Health and related ministries, national institutions and public catering establishments, dealt with such plans as installation of non-smoking marks and zones and broadcasting of programs on the prohibition of smoking.

Introduced in the practical workshop held in the technical cooperation with WHO were the world trend of tobacco control and the experience on tobacco control activities in the DPRK. It helped improve the practical qualifications of officials in the nonsmoking research field.

In the DPRK, the nonsmoking campaign has been conducted in accordance with the Tobacco Control Law, along with intensified hygienic activities to inform smokers of harmfulness of smoking.

Recently, a step was taken to place the import of foreign-made tobacco under restrictions.

A technical workshop took place in the country on June 3 to mark the World No Tobacco Day.
