In response to his speech, the Ministry of Agriculture has taken practical measures for attaining this year's goal of grain production and increasing livestock products and vegetable production.

It also urges the farms to introduce advanced methods of manuring and watering and produce various kinds of substitute fertilizer and pesticide on their own.

Along with this, the Ministry generalizes the experiences of high-yield units and high-yield farmers and takes steps for expanding the area under cultivation in different ways.

It set it as a target to secure tens of millions of cubic meters of water needed for farming till the middle of May and took preventive measures against damage from drought by restoring the system for irrigating tens of thousands of hectares of cropland.

South Phyongan Province, Nampho City and other areas push ahead with the work for building tide-water control dykes and river improvement in order to protect croplands from tidal wave and flood.

The Ministry has also directed big efforts to remodeling bases for producing farm machines and accessory parts and manufacturing efficient farm machines and modernizing stockbreeding bases.

Meanwhile, it has striven to cement the material and technical foundations of agricultural science institutes and establish the regular sci-tech dissemination system.
