30th Mangyongdae Prize Int'l Marathon Held
Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- The 30th Mangyongdae Prize International Marathon was held here to mark the birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung, Day of the Sun.

Marathoners from the DPRK, China, Morocco, Kenya and Ethiopia and foreign amateurs competed in marathon, half marathon, 10 km and 5 km races.

Its opening ceremony took place at the Kim Il Sung Stadium on Sunday.

Present there were Choe Hwi, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Sports Guidance Committee, Vice-Premier Jon Kwang Ho, officials concerned, Pyongyang citizens, youth and students and foreign guests.

Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Kim Il Guk made an opening address, to be followed by the marathon races.

When the signal pistol was fired, marathoners and amateurs left the stadium and run the course, cheered by working people, youth and schoolchildren.

DPRK marathoners Ri Kang Bom (man) and Ri Kwang Ok (woman) came first, Ethiopian marathoner Dabi Tadesse Yae (man) and DPRK marathoner Jo Un Ok (woman) second and DPRK marathoners Han Il Ryong (man) and Kim Ji Hyang (woman) third in the marathon and DPRK players won gold, silver and bronze medals in the half marathon.

A Russian male marathoner and a Swiss female marathoner took the first place, a Portuguese male and an Austrian female the second and an Irish male and an Austrian female the third in the amateur marathon.

At the end of the races, a closing ceremony took place.

Cups, medals, diplomas and certificates were awarded to the successful marathoners and amateurs at the closing ceremony.
