National Meeting Held to Mark March 8 Int'l Women's Day
Pyongyang, March 9 (KCNA) -- A national meeting was held at the People's Palace of Culture on Friday, the 109th March 8 International Women's Day.

It was attended by Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, Ri Il Hwan, department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, women officials and members of the women's union in Pyongyang.

Present there on invitation were overseas Korean women, women of foreign embassies and missions of international bodies here and foreign guests.

Ri Il Hwan said in a report that the Korean women's movement is the Juche-oriented one as it was pioneered and has developed under the guidance of the great leaders and the great Party.

Noting that President Kim Il Sung, with a deep insight into the importance of the issue of women in carrying out the cause of the revolution, gave an origin to the Juche-oriented Korean women's movement in the flames of the arduous anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle and provided its glorious tradition, he went on:

The great leader founded the women's union involving broad women and promulgated the Law on Sex Equality, the first of its kind in the world, though he was busy with the work to carry out the cause of building the Party, state and army after the liberation and thus gave a noble political integrity to the Korean women and opened a broad avenue for them to join the socio-political life.

The history of the Korean women's movement is associated with the exploits of Kang Pan Sok, an outstanding leader of the Korean women's movement, and the anti-Japanese war heroine Kim Jong Suk and the revolutionary careers of the great mothers of Korea serve as a noble example of the Korean women.

Chairman Kim Jong Il defended and added brilliance to the President's idea and exploits on the Juche-oriented women's movement and energetically led the Korean women to fulfill their responsibilities and duties in the struggle for the victory of the cause of socialism.

The Juche-oriented Korean women's movement is opening a golden age of its development thanks to Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.

The reporter called upon all the women to make positive contributions to the struggle for bringing about a revolutionary upsurge on all fronts of socialist construction.
