Japan's Past Crime of Plundering Korea of Its Forest Resources
Pyongyang, February 21 (KCNA) -- Recently more than one hundred and tens of wounded pine trees disclosing the Japanese imperialists' past crime of looting resin have been discovered in eight regions of south Korea including Namwon of North Jolla Province and Hamyang and Hapchon of South Kyongsang Province.

This one fact exposing the Japanese imperialists' crimes of plundering Korea of its forest resources makes one clearly see their brigandish nature as aggressors and marauders.

From the early days of their occupation of Korea, the Japanese imperialists regarded the forest resources abundant in Korea as an important material foundation for securing finance source needed to realize their policies for colonial domination and aggression.

To this end, they conducted a "forest survey" in Korea at the beginning of 1910 and brought 52 percent of the total area of forests to their property under the plea of "nationalized forest" from March to August that year. And they proclaimed an "Ordinance on Forest" in June 1911 as a part of institutional steps for reorganizing the colonial economic system and listed most of the mountains in Korea as "nationalized forest" under the pretext of "sectionalized survey of nationalized forest". As a result, 13 millions of hectares of forests out of 16 million hectares were brought to Japan's property under the plea of "nationalized forest", while the rest to individual Japs and pro-Japanese traitors.

After the First World War, the Japanese imperialists were hell-bent on plundering Korea of its forest resources to meet the highly increasing demands for industrial raw materials, warship building and building materials.

They established the forestry department in the "government-general in Korea" and forestry offices and forestry administrations in provinces to loot forest resources on a large scale.

In the 1930s, they committed the deforestation and plundering act more viciously for invading the continent. They cut down trees at random in different parts of Korea including the northern areas and the surroundings of scenic spots, historical remains and temples.

They plundered Korea of its hundred millions of cubic meters of timbers till their defeat.

Japanese imperialists' history of the 40-odd-year long colonial rule over Korea is an unprecedented crime-woven history in which they looted all Korea's material resources.
