Traditional Foods of Koreans for January 15th of Lunar Calendar
Pyongyang, February 18 (KCNA) -- February 19 is the January 15th of the lunar calendar.

From olden times, the Korean people have celebrated the day as a folk holiday.

Typical of traditional foods for the day are a dish made with five grains including rice, barley, millet and red bean, glutinous rice mixed with honey, laver-wrapped rice and dishes cooked with nine dried plants.

The customs of eating dish made with five grains is associated with a desire for rich harvest and happiness.

The glutinous rice mixed with honey was known to neighboring countries as a special dish. It has a history of one thousand and several hundred years.

And the laver-wrapped rice and dishes cooked with nine dried plants like bracken, mushroom, root of broad bellflowers and eggplant are also special dishes for the day.

The custom of culinary culture on the January 15th of the lunar calendar has been handed down and developed in keeping with the aspiration and the cultural requirement of the Korean people who further retain their superior traditions.
