Atul Kumar Anjan, secretary of the National Council of the Communist Party of India and chairman of the All India Indo-Korean Friendship Association, was elected chairman of the preparatory committee.

The preparatory committee set a celebration period from January 10 to February 17 and decided to organize various political and cultural events praising immortal exploits Kim Jong Il performed in building socialism, reunifying Korea and accomplishing the cause of global independence under the uplifted banner of the Juche idea.
