Development of Ultra-modern Technologies Gains Momentum
Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Scientists of the Bioengineering Branch of the State Academy of Sciences in the DPRK have paid big efforts to developing ultra-modern technologies.

One of their goals is to develop a method of breeding high-yield strains of crops resistant to unfavorable agricultural conditions with gene transformation technique.

They are stepping up the scientific research into technical problems arising in expanding the cultivation area of a variety of rice highly resistant to base and growing it.

Efforts are also directed to researches into gene-dislocation potato rich in content of starch, virus-resistance potato and a variety of rice highly resistant to cold.

Scientists have developed technologies for separating and cultivating different mesenchymal stem cells.

Meanwhile, they succeeded in making a safe and effective vaccine by means of gene engineering, solving problems in making diagnosis of hereditary and contagious diseases and tumors.
