Inhabitants in Kimchon City Launch Candlelight Action against THAAD Deployment

| Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Organizations in south Korea including the Council of Civic Organizations for Democracy in Kimchon City grouping 11 civic and public organizations in Kimchon City, North Kyongsang Province held the first candlelight rally on Aug. 20 in Kimchon in protest against the THAAD deployment, according to the south Korean paper Hangyore. The speakers said that the Ministry of Defense plans to set Sosong-ri, Chojon-myon, Songju County neighboring Kimchon City as a substitute site for THAAD deployment. They called for demonstrating the might of citizens' unity by checking the THAAD deployment, saying that Songju is the place closest to Kimchon City. They urged the regime and the Ministry of Defense to withdraw at once the plan of THAAD deployment. Earlier, more than 150 chiefs of institutions and organizations in Kimchon City issued a statement against the selection of a substitute site for THAAD deployment. |
