Among man-made lakes is Lake Thaesong in Kangso District and Ryonggang County, Nampho City.

The construction of the lake began in Juche 46 (1957) and completed in a short span of time. The lake takes its main source from the River Taedong.

Entering the new century, a project for the Kaechon-Lake Thaesong gravity-fed irrigation waterway had been carried out, according to the grand nature-remaking plan of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The completion of the waterway project made it possible to put the agricultural irrigation system on a higher level in its surrounding areas.

The lake is of big importance for producing electric power, solving the problem of drinking water and raising fish.

And there are schoolchildren's camp and holiday camp by the side of the lake.
