International Seminar on Peace and Reunification on Korean Peninsula Held in Japan
Pyongyang, August 15 (KCNA) -- An international seminar on peace and reunification on the Korean peninsula took place in Tokyo on July 30 on the 40th anniversary of the formation of the Japan Committee for the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea.

Present at the seminar were Fumihiro Himori, chairman of the Japan Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea, and other figures of the Japanese organizations for friendship and solidarity with the Korean people, Kenichi Ogami, secretary general of the International Institute of the Juche Idea, and Peter Woods, co-chairman of the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee for Supporting Peaceful Reunification of Korea.

Invited there were Nam Sung U, vice-chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), and other officials of Chongryon.

Introduced there were a solidarity message from the Korean Society for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and congratulatory messages from the solidarity organizations of the UK, Colombia, Nepal and other countries. Peter Woods made a keynote report.

He said that the ordeals and difficulties are lying in the way of Korea's peace and reunification owing to the hostile acts of the U.S. and its followers against the DPRK. He expressed the will to make positive contribution to achieving the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea with the firm faith and will that Korea is one.

He called upon the world progressive people to conduct more dynamic activities for solidarity with the Korean people to smash the hostile forces' moves to stifle the DPRK.

Then followed speeches.

Adopted there was an appeal to the organizations of all countries for friendship and solidarity with the Korean people and to world progressive people.

The appeal called for conducting the dynamic solidarity movement to positively support the great national conference for reunification proposed by the DPRK and demand the conclusion of a peace treaty between the DPRK and the U.S. and improvement of the DPRK-Japan relations.
