Anniversary of DPRK Labor Law
Pyongyang, June 24 (KCNA) -- Today marks the 70th anniversary of the promulgation of the Labor Law in Korea.

On the anniversary the DPRK people look back upon the feats President Kim Il Sung performed to provide them with a worthwhile working life by promulgating the democratic Labor Law after the country's liberation from Japan's colonial rule.

Before Korea's liberation, its people were forced to do harsh slave labor by the Japanese imperialist aggressors.

With deep insight into such situation, Kim Il Sung had worked heart and soul to adopt a new democratic labor law for the working masses as required by the developing social economy of the country.

He personally worked out a draft labor law and made sure that the draft was presented for popular discussion. Then he promulgated "Labor Law for the Factory and Office Workers in North Korea" on June 24, Juche 35 (1946).

The promulgation of this Labor Law was a great social change in the country as it provided a legislative system for the people to lead an independent and creative working life.

Under the law, the working masses in the DPRK came to enjoy their democratic rights to labor and relaxation such as 8-hour working system and paid-leave system for the first time.

After that Kim Il Sung saw to it that the Socialist Labor Law was enacted to keep with the establishment of the socialist system.

Today the DPRK people lead a happy life as the masters of the country, enjoying such benefits of the state as free compulsory educational system, free medical care system, social insurance and pension systems as well as system of accommodation at health resorts and holiday homes at the state expense.
