DPRK Red Cross Society Increases Its Capability
Pyongyang, May 17 (KCNA) -- The DPRK Red Cross Society (RCS) is paying big efforts to developing its capability to make rapid response to disaster.

The society, in close cooperation with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, has renewed its contingency plans while steadily improving the emergency system and ways.

It formed Red Cross relief squads in residential quarters with a possibility of disaster and has organized various courses and practical trainings through which RCS members, volunteers and officials concerned could possess of the ability to reliably carry out relief activities in case of disaster.

Meanwhile, the RCS upgraded the system of early warning on flood to the one ranging over different kinds of dangers and various fields.

It also published reference books on prevention of disasters in order to improve the skills of volunteers and relief workers and raise the awareness of disaster among citizens.

According to an official concerned, hundreds of RC volunteers played an active role in evacuating people from flood-hit areas of Rason City, North and South Hamgyong and South Hwanghae provinces last year and rendered first-aid and assistance to victims.
