Pyongyang, February 29 (KCNA) -- The project for renovating Kim Il Sung Stadium in Pyongyang is now progressing apace.

Such objects at the stadium will be renewed as football field, running tracks and offices and rooms for various purposes to smoothly ensure international and national sports tournaments.

The stadium is also to be equipped with larger electronic displays and advanced lighting apparatuses and arranged with better welfare and service facilities.

Much portion of the project volume has been carried out in a short period after its start, thanks to devoted efforts of soldier-builders and members of shock brigade. The plastering for indoor walls and ceiling with an area of tens of thousands of square meters was finished in over 40 days.

The stadium is located at the foot of Moran Hill, a historic place where President Kim Il Sung delivered a speech on his triumphant return to the homeland on October 14, Juche 34 (1945) after liberating it from the Japanese imperialist aggressors through a protracted armed struggle.

Over the past years it has hosted many international and national sports games and major events.
