Bonakele Majuba, secretary of the Mfumalanga Provincial Committee of the South African Communist Party and chairman of the South African Association of Friendship and Solidarity with Korean People, was elected chairman of the preparatory committee.

The committee decided to organize colorful political and cultural events praising the revolutionary careers and feats of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il on the occasion of the Day of the Sun and the Day of the Shining Star in 2017.
