According to data available, 19 new records were set at the Mangyongdae Prize Sports Games in April, the Sports Contest for Pochonbo Torch Prize in June and the DPRK Championships in Sept.-Nov.

Such renewal of national records was witnessed mainly in the weightlifting event.

For instance, weightlifters of the April 25 Sports Team renewed the previous records in men's 85kg snatch and jerk and women's 48kg jerk and above 75kg snatch while a weightlifter of the February 8 Vinalon Complex Sports Team set a new record in women's 48kg snatch. Ri Jun from the Pyongyang Sports Team broke the existing record in men's 94kg jerk in April and set a new record in snatch in November.

In June and October the Defense Sports Team of the Korean People's Army renewed records in women's individual 50m 3-position rifle shooting and set new records in men's team skeet shooting and 50m running target mixed shooting and in women's team 50m 3-position rifle shooting.

New records were also made in swimming, field and track, speed skating and other events.
