DPRK's History of Self-reliant Defence Industry
Pyongyang, December 15 (KCNA) -- The history of the DPRK's self-reliant defence industry tells about the undying feats performed by the peerlessly great persons of Mt. Paektu.

After Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule, President Kim Il Sung attached top priority to building the nation's self-reliant defence industry.

Early in October Juche 34 (1945), a few days before the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Il Sung toured the Phyongchon Plain in Pyongyang to choose a site for the country's first arsenal, which is now turned into the Phyongchon Revolutionary Site.

Since then, he had frequented the site to develop it into an all-round weaponry production base. When visiting the base in December 1948 to test-fire a submachine gun produced by its workers with their own efforts, he praised their spirit of self-reliance, stressing that what is important is to do anything by their own efforts.

True to the far-reaching plan of the President, Kim Jong Suk, an anti-Japanese war hero, called at this arsenal 20-odd times to solve the problems arising in the production of submachine guns with domestic technology and materials.

Such energetic guidance of the great persons resulted in a rapid development of the national defence industry.

To glorify the President's great feats for building the self-reliant defence industry with credit, leader Kim Jong Il set forth the unique Songun (military-first) idea and line and had worked hard to carry them into practice.

Visiting the remodeled Phyongchon Revolutionary Site some days ago, supreme leader Kim Jong Un said that the site is home to the Songun arms and that the exploits performed by Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il to provide the eternal foundations for the country's self-reliant defence industry will shine for all ages.
