It is the mass political organization of working class faithful to the cause of the Workers' Party of Korea and the leader, and a powerful organization for ideological education.

President Kim Il Sung made sure the GFTUK was established on November 30, Juche 34 (1945), brightly indicated the way to be followed by it and led the union to make positive contributions to the revolution and construction as a reliable helper of the party.

Leader Kim Jong Il gave the union the important guidelines for strengthening the union's work and helped the union fulfill its mission of protecting and implementing the party's policy.

A national meeting to mark the anniversary took place at the People's Palace of Culture on Monday.

Present there were Yang Hyong Sop, O Su Yong, Vice-Premier of the Cabinet Kim Tok Hun, officials of the agricultural workers' union and women's union, officials concerned and participants in the 4th national conference of chairpersons of exemplary primary organizations of the GFTUK.

The participants heard a congratulatory message to the organizations, officials and members of the GFTUK at all levels sent by the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The message said that for the past seven decades after its foundation the GFTUK has developed into the political organization of the popular masses boundlessly faithful to the party and successfully fulfilled its mission before the party and the revolution under the deep trust and warm care of the peerlessly great persons of Mt. Paektu.

The message noted with high appreciation that the organizations at all levels, officials and members of the union have strengthened the whole union into the glorious ranks of Kim Il Sung's and Kim Jong Il's heroic working class and remained faithful to the noble mission of the political organization of the popular masses.
