Police Brutal Crackdown under Fire in S. Korea
Pyongyang, November 21 (KCNA) -- 116 civic and public organizations including the south Korean Federation of Peasants Associations, the Bar Association for Democratic Society and the Confederation of Public Health and Medical Organizations held a press conference in Seoul on Nov. 19 at which they denounced the brutal suppression of the all-out people's action by the riot police, according to the south Korean internet paper Voice of People.

At the time of the action on Nov. 14, police indiscriminately fired water cannons, putting a peasant in a critical condition and seriously wounding many citizens, the speakers said, adding: The chief of the police agency, mastermind of the repressive action, should be detained and investigated and the chief executive should step down.

Candlelight rallies denouncing the police brutal suppression are taking place everyday in different places including the Seoul National University Hospital, they said, vowing to intensify the actions including protest and demonstration.

A declaration on the situation was made public in the name of 116 civic and public organizations at the press conference.

The declaration demanded the "government" apologize to the people for the police violence and punish those responsible.
