Koreans in Japan Call for Independent Reunification
Tokyo, November 18 (KNS-KCNA) -- A seminar was held in Japan on Nov. 16 in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the formation of the Association of Koreans in Japan for Peaceful Reunification.

Present at the seminar were So Chung On, director of the Department for International Affairs and Reunification of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon); Ri Tong Je, chairman of the Association of Koreans in Japan for Peaceful Reunification; and others, leading officials of Chongryon organizations and enterprises and other Koreans in Japan.

Members of the south Korean public organizations were also present there.

Choe Yong Hae, dean of Political Economy Faculty of Korean University in Japan, gave a lecture.

He said that the DPRK made efforts to tide over the situation on the peninsula that almost reached belligerency due to the moves of the south Korean military in August, stressing that the improvement of the north-south relations and peace and stability on the peninsula are very important.

The national meeting of reunification held in celebration of the 70th anniversary of Korea's liberation demonstrated the will of the Korean nation to wage a more dynamic struggle for national reunification, the speakers noted, declaring that the Koreans in Japan would play the role of a driving force in the reunification movement in the future, too in order to usher in the second June 15 era of reunification and the young Koreans, in particular, would stand in the van of the movement.

The seminar adopted an appeal calling on the Koreans at home and abroad to turn out in the drive for foiling the war moves of the hostile forces and paving a broad avenue to independent reunification in the spirit of by Korean nation itself and on the younger generation to take the lead in the movement for national reunification.
