The union is a reliable helper of the Workers' Party of Korea as it has remained true to the idea and cause of the party, a transmission belt linking the party with the women and a powerful ideological and educational organization training its members as Songun revolutionary fighters.

President Kim Il Sung founded the union on Nov. 18, Juche 34 (1945), clearly indicated the way to be followed by it and led it to creditably play its role at every stage of the development of the revolution.

Leader Kim Jong Il provided the important guidelines to be held fast to by the union in carrying out the revolutionary cause of Songun and reposed deep trust in it.

A national meeting marking its 70th founding anniversary took place at the People's Palace of Culture on Tuesday.

Present at the meeting were Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the C.C., the WPK, Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Kim Yong Jin, vice-premier of the Cabinet, officials of the relevant field and the union and its members.

Kim Ki Nam read out a congratulatory message sent by the C.C., the WPK to the organizations of various levels, officials and members of the union on the occasion of its 70th founding anniversary.

The message said that over the past 70 years since its founding the union has developed into a revolutionary organization of the women boundlessly loyal to the party and leader under the wise guidance, deep trust and warm love of the peerlessly great persons of Mt. Paektu and successfully performed its mission and role on behalf of the times and history, leaving a clear mark in the history of the struggle of the Korean people.

It highly praised its organizations of various levels and their officials and members for having devotedly worked to develop the union into the ranks of female revolutionaries and creditably fulfill their noble responsibilities and roles on behalf of the times and revolution in the drive for winning the final victory.

Kim Jong Sun, chairwoman of the Central Committee of the union, made a report at the meeting.
