Ulterior Aim Sought by U.S. in Objecting to Conclusion of Peace Treaty Disclosed by Russian Expert
Pyongyang, November 4 (KCNA) -- Alexander Zhebin, director of the Center for the Study of Korean Affairs under the Institute of the Far East of the Russian Academy of Science, disclosed the ulterior aim sought by the U.S. in objecting to the conclusion of a peace treaty, according to the Russian Sputnik Broadcasting Service on Oct. 30.

Recollecting that at the recent UN General Assembly, the DPRK foreign minister called on the U.S. to replace the 1953 Korean Armistice Agreement (AA) by a peace treaty, he said:

The party to the AA at that time was not south Korea but the U.S.

Nevertheless, the U.S. is refusing to conclude the treaty with the DPRK. The former is not willing to own its moral and material responsibilities for the Korean War.

It claims that it did not participate in the war at the level of a state.

But a U.S. army general signed the AA as a representative of the UN Command.

The U.S. denied the DPRK's proposal for concluding a peace treaty with it.

One of the reasons it claims is that the DPRK is not honoring its international commitment as evidenced by its refusal to stop producing nuclear weapons.

The U.S. does not work for settling the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula under various pretexts.

The reason is that the U.S. has to justify the building of its missile shield under the pretext of the DPRK's threat in East Asia.

It is clear that its moves for building the missile shield in the Asia-Pacific region target Russia and China, among other things.

It is the contention of the U.S. that it can justify its forces' presence in south Korea only when the DPRK is labeled "evil" in this region.
