Military Parade, Mass Demonstration Mark WPK's 70th Birthday
Pyongyang, October 10 (KCNA) -- A military parade and mass demonstration took place with splendor at Kim Il Sung Square here Saturday, the 70th founding anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK).

Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, first chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army (KPA), arrived at the square.

A ceremony of the guard of honor of the KPA Ground, Navy and Air and Anti-Air Force and Worker-Peasant Red Guards took place to greet him.

He took the tribune of honor of the square.

Taking the tribune of honor were Hwang Pyong So, Kim Ki Nam, Choe Ryong Hae, and others, officials of the C.C., the WPK, chief secretaries of the provincial committees of the WPK, and commanding officers of the KPA.

Liu Yunshan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau and member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, appeared there.

Also taking the reviewing stands of the tribune of honor were Kim Yong Nam, Pak Pong Ju, Yang Hyong Sop, and others, Salvador Antonio Valdes Mesa, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and vice-president of the Council of State of Cuba, Chansy Phosikham, secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and chairman of its Organization Committee, and Ha Thi Khiet, secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and director of its Mass Movement Department.

Seen at reviewing stands were the delegates to the celebrations of the 70th founding anniversary of the WPK, officials of the party, armed forces and power organs, public organizations, ministries and national institutions, service personnel of the KPA and the Korean People's Internal Security Forces, former unconverted long-term prisoners who are pro-reunification patriotic fighters, heroes, bereaved families of revolutionary martyrs, persons related to revolutionary activities of the peerlessly great persons, persons of merits, overseas compatriots congratulatory groups and delegations and overseas compatriots and the chief of the Pyongyang mission of the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front.

Present there on invitation were foreign party delegations and other delegations, diplomatic envoys and representatives of international organizations and members of the military attaches corps here and other foreign guests.

The flags of the DPRK and the WPK were hoisted at the square.

A 70-gun salute boomed amid the playing of music of "Song of General Kim Il Sung" and "Song of General Kim Jong Il".

Kim Jong Un made a speech for celebrating the 70th founding anniversary of the WPK.

When the cars carrying the flags bearing the portraits of smiling Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il entered the square, the guard of honor of the Ground, Navy and Air and Anti-Air Force of the KPA and the Worker-Peasant Red Guards and all participants in the military parade paid the highest tribute to them.

The military parade started.

A column of fighters in the uniforms of the Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Army and a column of service personnel in the period of the building of the regular armed forces after the liberation of the country marched in fine array to the tune of the military music to be followed by columns of Kang Kon Guards Second Infantry Division, Seoul Guards Third Infantry Division, Seoul Kim Chaek Guards 4th Infantry Division and other guards units, columns of political operatives, children's guards and other columns of those who fought in the period of the Fatherland Liberation War.

Then followed the columns of the company of Mt. Taedok from where the slogan of "A-match-for-a-hundred" originated, the Seoul Ryu Kyong Su Guards 105th Tank Division, fighter-group of KPA Air and Anti-Air Force, the unit which built the West Sea Barrage and other units which made distinguished services to the party, the leader, the country and its people from the post-war period till now.

Marching past the tribune of honor were columns of Kim Il Sung Military University, Kim Il Sung University of Politics, Kim Jong Suk Naval University, Kim Chaek University of Air Force, Kang Kon Military Academy and other military academies at all levels of the KPA and units of Ground, Navy and Air and Anti-Air Force and Strategic Force, airwomen's unit, units of arms and services, special forces and Pyongyang Institute.

Kim Jong Un acknowledged the salute of the columns.

Planes flew in the sky above the square depicting the emblem of the WPK and the figures "70".

Marching past were columns of the Paektusan Hero Youth Shock Brigade, the Worker-Peasant Red Guards, the Young Red Guards and the Korean Children's Union.

Columns of different types of artillery pieces, armored cars, tanks, drones, strategic rockets and other latest Korean-style weaponry and ultra-precision strike means rumbled past the square.

When the column of the brass band passed the square, playing the revolutionary military song and forming the word "Victory", planes flied through the sky above the square to conclude the parade, making three color smoke.

Then followed a demonstration of Pyongyangites.

The columns of demonstrators escorting the cars carrying the statues of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il entered the square to be followed by ranks of dancers with party flags, service persons' families and other columns and demonstrators with floats and slogan boards.

Letters reading "Kim Il Sung", "Kim Jong Il", "Kim Jong Un", "Celebration of 70th Anniversary", "Protecting the Leader unto Death", "Mother Party", "Ideological Power", "Military Power", "Youthful Power", etc. and the flags of the WPK and the DPRK were formed on the square in succession.

Fireworks were displayed and lots of balloons were released in the sky at the end of the demonstration.

Kim Jong Un warmly acknowledged the enthusiastic cheers of the masses.
