Action against S. Korean Authorities' Suppression of Trade Unions Declared

Pyongyang, October 10 (KCNA) -- The Confederation of Trade Unions and the Government Employees Union of south Korea held a press conference in Seoul on Oct. 6 at which they declared an action protesting against the authorities' suppression of trade unions, according to the south Korean paper Nodong and Segye.

The confederation said the authorities' move to close the office of the Government Employees Union is aimed at mounting a preemptive attack not only to suppress the trade union but also put down the struggle of workers and the democratic trade union movement.

The Government Employees Union said it would launch actions such as sit-in strike and candlelight rally for protecting the office.

Speakers demanded the authorities stop at once the suppression of trade unions and moves for retrogressively revising the labor law.
