DPRK Red Cross Society Demands Immediate Halt to Moves to Enact "Law on Human Rights in North"
Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- The preparations for the reunion of divided families and relatives are now in full swing as the first step for implementing the hard-won agreement reached at the recent north-south high-level urgent contact.

A spokesman for the Central Committee of the Red Cross Society of the DPRK in a statement Wednesday slammed the south Korean ruling and opposition parties for moving to enact the "law on human rights in the north" at a session of the "National Assembly" against this backdrop.

The statement branded this as an open provocation to reverse the trend of reconciliation and detente between the north and the south to confrontation and an outright challenge to the nation's desire for reunification.

The said move being pushed forward by the political philistines of south Korea with an aim to hurl mud at the dignified social system in the DPRK and genuine human rights of the people is a deliberate move to bedevil the north-south relations and derail the humanitarian exchange and cooperation between the fellow countrymen, it noted, and went on:

This is an intolerable insult to ardent patriotism displayed by the DPRK and its positive efforts to alleviate the sufferings and pain of those who have been living separated from each other for such a long period.

In fact, the Red Cross humanitarian issues including the reunion of separated families and relatives have not been properly settled because the U.S. and the south Korean anti-reunification forces have perpetrated vicious provocations whenever there was a sign of detente between the north and the south.

The statement expressed the expectation that the south Korea Red Cross, the International Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations and bodies would vehemently reject and denounce south Korea's reckless moves for the enactment of the "law on human rights in the north" that goes against the spirit of Red Cross and the idea of humanitarianism.
