Memorial Service for Victims of Ukishima-maru Incident Held in Japan
Tokyo, August 28 (KNS-KCNA) -- A memorial service took place at Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture of Japan on August 24, 70 years since thousands of Koreans on their way to the homeland after its liberation were mercilessly killed due to the explosion of the ship Ukishima-maru deliberately caused by the Japanese imperialists.

Present there were Kim Sang Il, chairman of the Kyoto Prefectural Headquarters of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), Ha Sang Thae, chief of the Kyoto Prefectural Headquarters of the south Korean Residents Association in Japan, Japanese personages and citizens.

Speakers deplored that Koreans lost their lives due to such atrocity of the Japanese imperialists as blowing up the ship carrying them to their homeland.

The truth behind the incident has not yet been probed and Japan has not yet made any apology and reparation, they said.

Probe into the truth behind the incident brooks no further delay in order to have the grudge of the victims settled, they stressed.
