Enlarged Meeting of Asia-Pacific Regional Committee for Supporting Peaceful Reunification of Korea Held
Pyongyang. August 16 (KCNA) -- An enlarged meeting of the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee for Supporting Peaceful Reunification of Korea took place here on Sunday.

Present there were Co-Chairpersons Peter Woods and Vu Xuan Hong, co-vice chairpersons and members of the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee for Supporting Peaceful Reunification of Korea, members of the Joint Secretariat of the committee and its leadership members, delegations and delegates who are taking part in the international solidarity event for celebrating the 70th anniversary of Korea's liberation.

Present there on invitation were So Ho Won, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries who doubles as chairman of the Korean Association for Asia-Pacific Exchange, and officials concerned.

The meeting informed its participants of the committee's activities in the past since its formation and set forth its future action program.

Peter Woods in a keynote report called for building stronger international public opinion to check and frustrate the U.S. reckless moves for suffocating the DPRK and igniting another Korean war and to ensure durable peace on the peninsula.

The floor was taken by Fumihiro Himori, co-vice chairman of the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee for Supporting Peaceful Reunification of Korea and chairman of the Japan Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea, Norma G. Binas, co-general secretary of the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee for Supporting Peaceful Reunification of Korea and delegate of the Philippines Solidarity Committee for Peace and Reunification in the Korean Peninsula, Peter Wilson, secretary of the New Zealand-DPRK Society, and Phanindra Raj Pant, secretary of the Nepalese Committee for Promotion of Reunification of Korea.

The speakers said that achieving the peace and reunification of Korea is an acute and vital problem directly related to the issue of preserving the peace and security of the world.

The meeting adopted the action program of the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee for Supporting Peaceful Reunification of Korea.

It elected honorary chairman and members to fill vacancies.
