In the early 20th century the Japanese imperialists occupied Korea by force of arms and had inflicted untold sufferings and misfortune on its people.

Under this situation, President Kim Il Sung founded the revolutionary armed forces, declaring an anti-Japanese war to achieve the national liberation.

During the anti-Japanese armed struggle, he had one million-strong Kwantung Army of Japan under his thumb with distinguished strategy and tactics.

In many battles he employed unique guerrilla tactics to defeat the aggressors, among them the tactic of marching a long distance at one step and the tactic of appearing in the east and in the west like a flash.

Such protean guerrilla tactics were also used to defeat the U.S. imperialists, who boasted of being the strongest in the world, in the 1950-1953 Korean War.
