Kim Il Sung in his lifetime had devoted all his efforts to reunifying the country.

As part of the efforts, he convened the historic Joint Conference of Representatives of Political Parties and Social Organizations in North and South Korea after the country's liberation from Japan's colonial rule to frustrate the moves of the U.S. imperialists and traitors for territorial division.

Later, he laid down the Three Principles of National Reunification to make a breakthrough in opening dialogue and negotiation and ensuring visits between the north and the south and smashing the "two Koreas" plot of the U.S. imperialists and separatists.

He also advanced the Proposal for Founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo, the most fair and reasonable one for national reunification, as well as the Ten-point Program of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation, which aroused the entire nation to achieving national reconciliation and unity.

From June 20 to July 5, 1994, the last year of his great life, he gave instructions on national reunification on dozens of occasions.

Indeed, his lifetime was that of the greatest patriot who had worked heart and soul for national reconciliation, unity and reunification.
