Japanese Authorities' Clampdown on Chongryon Protested
Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- An emergency meeting of Koreans in Kinki, Japan took place in Kyoto on June 10 protesting against the Japanese investigation authorities' clampdown upon the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and demanding release of illegally arrested Koreans.

Pak Ku Ho, vice-chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee, noted that the joint investigation group under the Kyoto Prefectural Police Headquarters arrested the director of the Korean Goods Sales Company and others on groundless charges and filed a suit against two of them at a court.

He called on Chongryon officials and other Koreans in Japan to turn out in the struggle to protect Chongryon and have those arrested and indicted officials released.

Kim Hak Bok, chairperson of the Kyoto Prefectural Headquarters of Chongryon, said the fascist action taken by the Kyoto prefectural prosecution authorities is a serious one aimed to tarnish the image of Chongryon, a dignified overseas compatriots' organization of the DPRK, and stem the trend towards improved DPRK-Japan ties.

At the meeting the representative of the defence counsel for arrestees disclosed the illegality of the action taken by the Japanese investigation authorities.

Then followed solidarity speeches by Japanese personages.

Protest speeches were made by Chongryon officials, protest group formed and a written protest read out there.
