Hunger Strike Staged in Protest against Clampdown on Trade Union
Pyongyang, June 12 (KCNA) -- The Metal Trade Union of south Korea staged a hunger strike in protest against big businesses' clampdown on the union in Seoul on June 9, according to south Korean paper Nodong and Segye.

Prior to the strike, it held a press conference.

Speakers recalled that the chief of a sub-branch of a branch of the Kwangju-South Jolla Provincial Chapter of the trade union committed suicide in protest against the clampdown on the union and human rights abuse while working at a business managed by Park Ji Man, brother of the chief executive.

They demanded Park Ji Man immediately come out for negotiations with the trade union, own responsibility for the death and make an apology for it, not going at large under the patronage of the chief executive.

They declared they would stage actions for the resignation of Park Ji Man and the Park regime unless the situation is settled.

Then, the son of the deceased and trade unionists entered a hunger strike after having their heads shaven.
