Scientific Achievements Made in Weather Forecast
Pyongyang, June 8 (KCNA) -- The State Hydro-meteorological Administration of the DPRK has made successes in putting the weather forecast on a more scientific basis over the past one year.

In June last year, supreme leader Kim Jong Un visited the Administration and stressed the need for its researchers and forecasters to enhance their role and intensify the scientific researches for accurate weather information.

In hearty response to his instructions, the Administration concentrated efforts on improving the capability of forecasting downpour and rainstorm in summer and local meteorology.

It established new real-time flood prediction system for the River Taedong and new system of estimating the quantity of water in main rivers and reservoirs in dry season.

The Administration also bettered marine forecast according to territorial areas.

Meanwhile, a work was conducted to put data communication between the Administration and provincial weather stations on an IT basis.

The Administration is now offering, through mobiles, real-time weather information and short- and middle-term forecast in main areas.

And it directs efforts to strengthening the technological exchange among scientists and forecasters through national and regional courses and experience-share meetings.

Choe Kwang Guk, director of the Central Weather Forecast Station, told KCNA that they would work harder to update the meteorological observation.
